چکیده
Abstract The objective of this experiment was to determine the effects replacing hay and dried distillers grains plus solubles (DDGS) with whole cottonseed (WCS) in diets balanced for physically effective neutral detergent fiber (peNDF) on performance, carcass characteristics, plasma metabolites finishing cattle. Heifers (n = 103) steers 104) were blocked by sex bodyweight (BW) randomly allocated pens within block (6 per treatment). Pens 1 2 experimental treatments: a control diet (CON; prairie hay, DDGS, dry-rolled corn, liquid supplement), WCS (CTN; WCS, molasses). A vitamin mineral supplement urea included both at same rate. Data collected 14 d intervals through 56, then every 28 until harvest. Animals harvested 3 different groups based BW block. Average daily gain (ADG) feed ratio (G:F) greater CTN treatment overall (P ≤ 0.05), tended have final 0.10). Fecal consistency score CON 42, beginning beta-agonist feeding period, collection ˂ 0.03). had more fecal pH 140 0.01). No × day interaction ≥ 0.70) detected glucose, lactate, or nitrogen (PUN) concentrations. lactate PUN concentrations effect observed all analyzed This suggests that improves growth performance efficiency when roughage byproduct protein fat source diet.

Effectiveness of neutral detergent fiber in whole cottonseed and dried distillers grains compared with alfalfa haylage.
Sixteen Holstein cows in midlactation were used in a 4 x 4 Latin square design to determine the effect of replacing alfalfa NDF with NDF from whole, linted cottonseed or dried distillers grains. Low and high fiber control diets (13 and 19% of dietary DM from alfalfa haylage NDF, respectively) were compared with diets designed to contain 13% of DM from alfalfa haylage NDF plus 6% of DM from eith...
متن کاملEvaluation of modifications to the neutral-detergent-fiber analysis procedure for corn and distillers grains plus solubles
Six experiments were conducted to evaluate methods for measuring NDF in corn and distillers grains plus solubles. Methods included using sodium sulfite, α-amylase (AMY), amyloglucosidase, heat and steam with an autoclave, grinding methods, and a pre–fat extraction to decrease factors that interfere with measuring NDF accurately. Using sodium sulfite and AMY resulted in decreased (P < 0.01) corn...
متن کاملDistillers Dried Grains Plus Solubles Utilization by Livestock and Poultry
Increased production of corn based ethanol and the resulting increase in availability of distillers dried grain with solubles (DDGS) has a number of implications for the U.S. livestock industry and for the production of traditional livestock feed crops. Some of those implications are examined here. First, and most importantly, the potential size of the domestic market for DDGS is evaluated in d...

percentage resulted from the inclusion of increasing dietary DDGS concentration (P < 0.01). Despite the lack of treatment effect (P = 0.29), total monounsaturated fatty acids mass percentage linearly decreased in response to increased dietary DDGS (P = 0.04). Total polyunsaturated fatty acid mass % increased linearly in response to increased concentrations of dietary DDGS (P < 0.01) The outer l...
متن کاملInclusion of Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) in Swine Rations
Introduction As the ethanol industry grows in Michigan and the U.S., so does the discussion about including distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) in swine rations. The DDGS byproduct has the potential to be a nutritious, cost effective replacement for corn, SBM and inorganic phosphorus. Much has been written about feeding DDGS recently in popular magazines and newspapers, including infor...
